Salt Lake City Heating and Cooling Company Volunteers at Fisher House
SALT LAKE CITY—On June 24, Just Right Heating & Cooling employees rolled up their sleeves to help a caring, veteran's organization in our community - Fisher House.
For a combined 25 man-hours, Just Right volunteers washed windows, removed weeds & debris from garden beds, and helped with other chores at Fisher House. Additionally, they donated a year’s worth of toiletry items for the residents of Fisher House.
This veterans facility provides temporary housing, meals, and a sense of home to military, veterans, & their families while they receive medical care in Salt Lake City. Temporary residents of Fisher House have traveled as far as Samoa to receive medical treatment in the area, and typically stay at the facility for anywhere between 1-day to three months.
Dan Dearden, the founder of Just Right, said they are planning more volunteer visits to Fisher House in 2023 and beyond. Dearden said his employees are excited to support a local organization that does so much to provide peace of mind to veterans & their families.
“Fisher House relies on local volunteers to help with cleaning, landscaping, & meals, and we’re more than happy to do our part,” he said. “This is truly a home away from home and a place to heal for our veterans and their families.”
Fisher House is run by one full-time manager, one assistant manager, and two housekeepers all employed by the Veterans Administration (VA). With the direction of these full-time staff, community donations, and volunteers support, supply, and maintain the home.
About the Fisher House
Fisher House, located on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City, features 20 private suites, each with its own beds and a bathroom. Residents stay for free while receiving & healing from medical treatment like surgeries, transplants, cancer treatment, and therapy.
Families share a common kitchen, library, and recreation areas, and enjoy complimentary meals, snacks, and toiletries - provided entirely by donation.
Veterans travel nationwide to receive treatment at medical facilities near the house, like the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
